Choosing what tiles you should have for your roof can be quite a big decision as there are lots of things to consider. It all depends on what matters most to you; whether that is low cost, longevity, weather resistance etc. Each type of roofing tile is different, and they all have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Your roof is a very important part of your property, as it comes in the first line of defence against any kind of damage or harsh weather. Therefore, you should take lots of careful consideration before deciding which roofing tiles are most suited to your property and are going to provide you with the most use and benefits. We thought we would break it down for you and give you some information about the different kinds of roof tiles available…

Slate

One of the more costly types of roofing tiles, slate is renowned for its longevity and incredible lifespan. It is a very durable material, hence why it is so reliable and lasts for such a long time. In fact, slate roofing can be known to last for over 100 years, making it a fantastic investment for your property. So, although the price of slate tiles may be high, it is essentially a once in a lifetime investment, and you should encounter minimal damage, therefore eliminating any repair costs.

It is quite a heavy material used in roofing, which means that it isn’t very susceptible to damage and is highly durable and weather resistant. Furthermore, it is a very eco-friendly material to have on your property, and looks great too!

Metal

If you are looking for a quick fix and want the installation of your new roofing tiles to be speedy, metal tiles are a great option. They are so easy and quick to install that you will be with your new roof in no time. Because of this, you will often find that installation costs are much less than other types of roofing tiles. Despite these fantastic benefits, metal roof tiles are highly weather resistant and able to withstand pretty severe winds and bad weather conditions.

Clay

Clay tiles tend to attract a lot of homeowners due to appearance. They are a very aesthetically pleasing style of roof tile, which is why a lot of people opt for them in order to make their property look good on the outside. They also have a fantastic lifespan, and will serve your roof for up to 100 years. Clay tiles are very light, meaning they don’t put any strain on the building, however this can make them more susceptible to weather damage. Another thing about clay tiles that attracts homeowners, is that they offer great insulation, therefore keeping your home warmer, which as a result can lower energy bills!

Cement

Synthetic cement tiles are one of the most affordable types you can get. They are generally very cheap to install and the material itself doesn’t cost a lot in comparison to other roofing tiles. However, despite the low cost, cement roof tiles are still a reliable choice to make, as the average lifespan is around 50 years. This means that they are cheap to install, and you still won’t have to re-invest for a long time afterwards!
