Running out of space in our homes is a problem that all of us experience, and it can be down to many different reasons. Perhaps you live in a small house because it suited your budget when you moved in, or maybe you are extending your family and need some extra room, or you could simply be feeling a little cramped and craving a bigger home. For most people, the immediate solution to this is looking to move house into somewhere bigger and more suitable. However, there are other solutions. One thing that can really make a difference in the way of space, is having an extension. It solves the problem as it makes your house bigger, but takes a lot less hassle and is done at a much smaller cost than relocating into a larger house.
There are all sorts of ways you can make your house bigger with an extension, and so we thought we’d give you a few ideas…
Living room extension
Your living room is essentially the main room in the house, and quite often, it is also the biggest. Therefore, your living room is a great place to have an extension built as you can be really innovative in the way you use the space. Do you want to simply make the room bigger? Or do you want to extend it and then convert a part of it into something else? This is ideal if you have a big family and would benefit from more space to gather everyone together.
Adding a conservatory
Another way of creating more space in your house with an extension, is by building a conservatory. Conservatories are really interesting and add a lot of character to a home, as well as creating a whole new, peaceful area to relax and socialise with your friends and family. As conservatories are built of mainly glass, they have a very authentic, natural feel about them as they expose you more to the outdoors.
Building a porch
Although not a huge extension, having a porch built can in fact create quite a bit of extra space. It becomes like an extra storage area where you can leave things like coats and jackets, as well as making your house slightly bigger. Porches are also great for added security as it means there are essentially two doors to get into your house. Furthermore, porches generally provide extra convenience as well as a bit more space.
Adding a brand new room
An extension doesn’t just have to mean extending an existing room in the house, but rather it can entail building a completely new room onto. This gives you a lot of freedom as you can turn this into whatever you would like, whether that’s a new bedroom, a games room, an office, or even just somewhere to have extra storage facilities. Furthermore, having an extension adds value to your house, especially if it is a new bedroom, as this means you will be upgrading your home for example from a three bedroom to a four bedroom house. Therefore, this makes having an extension a very worthwhile investment of your time and money, whilst it also solves your current problem with a lack of space.
